Support Caron – Save A Life
Recovery is not only possible, it’s probable. Your support will help Caron save lives. Funds raised at the Recovery for Life Gala will provide scholarships to increase access to treatment as well as program support to ensure unwavering and innovative services that complement the inpatient and outpatient treatment experience and significantly increase recovery outcomes.
Honoring Michael Moore with the Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence
The Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence, named in honor of our late founder, is presented as a tribute to an individual or couple, who, in the estimation of Caron’s Board of Trustees, demonstrates the same spirit of caring and compassion that was exemplified by Dick Caron.
Michael Moore didn't just stumble into the world of recovery – he dove in headfirst and made a splash that's still being felt today. It all began in 2003 when he found himself at Caron’s Breakthrough workshop, thanks to a scholarship that was the golden ticket to his own recovery journey.
As he delved into the Co-Dependency Phase II, it was like hitting the turbo button on his recovery, confronting the effects of growing up in an alcoholic household with the determination of a superhero.
Grateful for the life-changing support he received, Michael didn't just stop at heartfelt thanks – he rolled up his sleeves and got involved. From being part of the development committee for Comedy Night which cracked up audiences and raised funds for recovery, to being a driving force behind the creation of DC's very own Recovery for Life Gala, he has been a force of nature. With a little guidance and a whole lot of heart, he helped pull off the first of many unforgettable galas in DC, proving that making a difference can be just as fun as it is impactful.
Whether serving on the Board or dazzling everyone on the Gala committee, Michael's journey with Caron has been a whirlwind of gratitude, generosity, and unshakeable dedication. His story is a living testament to the life-changing impact of Caron's support on his own recovery journey and the lives of countless others.
Honoring Cynthia Steele Vance with the Partner in Recovery Award
Caron’s Partner in Recovery Award was established to recognize and celebrate an individual or group who has given of their time and talent to help Caron advocate and promote recovery.
A familiar face in Washington DC, Cynthia is known as an award-winning broadcast journalist, and her appearances at countless charity events over the years set the stage for her successful career in real estate. She also served in leadership positions on the boards of several regional non-profit organizations including the DC Dance Theater, Wolf Trap Associates, WETA Public Television, Knock Out Abuse, and Trustee of George Washington University. From 2011 to 2013, she served at GWU’s Ambassador to several conferences of the Bilateral Women’s Conference in Bern, Switzerland.
Cynthia pioneered the use of video to sell luxury real estate in Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland, featuring some of the most iconic homes in the region. In 2011, she helped launch TTR Sotheby’s Luxury Channel, a web-based and mobile program opening the door to some of the region’s most luxurious properties.
Her roots are deep in Virginia where she raised her children and in Washington, DC where she attended Mount Vernon Women’s College, now part of George Washington University. She currently resides in Georgetown, where she has embraced city life. She is an avid runner, making almost daily runs to the Lincoln Memorial.
Cynthia has shared her talents as emcee for countless Caron DC Galas learning more about the disease of addiction. She continues to be an advocate and friend for recovery.
