Program Highlights

Statistics show that patients whose families participate in drug and alcohol rehab have lower relapse rates. Caron's in-depth programs educate, guide, and support family members, so they understand the disease of addiction and what they need to do to achieve long-term recovery as a family.

By addressing the challenges within the family system, Caron gives families a foundation they can build on to create a healthy and open family system, one that works for everyone. We also introduce family members to our active alumni and family community so they can build connections with other families going through the same stage of treatment and others in long-term recovery.

Caron’s Family Programming in Pennsylvania

Caron's virtual and on-campus family program provides the knowledge, information, and support family members need to better understand substance use disorder and achieve long-term recovery. Family programming and support do not end when the patient leaves residential treatment. Along with their family member, families can count on a continuum of educational and support options for their lives in recovery.

The program gives patients and families a solid understanding of substance use disorder and teaches skills to create healthy changes to the family system. Topics include:

Each family receives a list of resources in their hometown that can provide ongoing support and education.

Experienced educators on staff with Caron’s Education Alliance lead the program’s educational component and family therapists facilitate the group therapy component. For 35 years, Caron's Education Alliance has provided comprehensive substance use education and supportive services along the full continuum of care, from prevention to recovery. The Alliance’s evidence-informed and innovative strategies benefit youth, families, and professionals.

If you have a loved one who is not currently a patient at Caron and continues to struggle with substance use disorder, your family is eligible to participate in the family program.

Family therapists collaborate with referents, therapists, and other treating professionals to gather information and use the patient’s psychosocial information to customize a family treatment plan for each family.

Youth Education Program

Growing up in a family with someone who has a substance use disorder puts youth at greater risk of developing a substance use disorder and/or other behavioral health issues, including:

The Youth Education Program offers children and teens education, support, and, most importantly, hope for themselves and their loved one. In a safe and caring environment, young family members begin to learn that they can trust others and that it is okay to talk about how they feel. Program leaders encourage them to understand that they didn’t cause their loved one’s substance use disorder, and they aren’t responsible for fixing it either. This program is offered several times a year with virtual and in-person options.
