Could weight-loss drugs treat other chronic diseases?

Dr. Mo Sarhan a physician at Caron Treatment Centers locatied in Delray Beach, Florida, has used GLP-1 drugs like Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro to help treat addictions such as opioid and alcohol dependency. His approach has shown promising results, with many patients experiencing a reduction in cravings. Sarhan, along with Caron Treatment Center fellow, Steven Klein, has treated around 75 patients using these medications in combination with traditional therapies. GLP-1s (including Mounjaro, Ozempic, and Wegovy) are gaining attention for their potential to treat a variety of conditions beyond their original focus on obesity and diabetes, such as addiction, chronic kidney disease, and sleep apnoea.
