Prescribing gabapentin with opioids may increase risk for OUD, overdose

The study found that the greatest risk of developing opioid use disorder or experiencing an opioid overdose is among patients who had prescriptions of gabapentin both before and after their opioid prescription.

Clinically, I think, before prescribing gabapentin or another gabapentinoid, the prescriber needs to be clear on why they are choosing this medication, as well as the short- and long-term management of this patient.
