Dr. Alex Santoro is a staff psychologist and a team member of Caron’s Healthcare Professionals Program. Dr. Santoro has been involved in the evaluation and treatment of healthcare professionals since 2019. She believes in a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to caring for healthcare professionals.
Dr. Santoro’s role in the Healthcare Professionals Program includes providing psychological services, consultation, and program oversight. As the team’s psychologist, she conducts comprehensive psychological evaluations and provides group and individual therapy. In addition, Dr. Santoro offers individualized support and guidance to healthcare professionals accessing evaluation and/or treatment at Caron. She also liaises with state licensing boards and professional monitoring programs on behalf of patients.
In addition to her role in the Healthcare Professionals Program, Dr. Santoro is a member of Caron’s trauma services and psychological testing teams. She is certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy and is a rostered provider of cognitive processing therapy. Her theoretical orientation is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy, and her therapeutic approach is informed by person-centered therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy principles.
Dr. Santoro has experience working with individuals of all ages who struggle with a broad range of mental health concerns, including psychosis, mood instability, depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use. In addition to her work with healthcare professionals, Dr. Santoro also has experience working with teens, college students, individuals who are homeless, individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her training in therapeutic intervention and assessment largely took place in inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient clinics in the Philadelphia area.
She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and her Master of Science in Counseling from Villanova University.
