As a behavioral health therapist for the Grand View Program, Awilda Pedraza provides individual counseling and facilitates group therapy. Her goal is to prepare patients to maintain their recovery after treatment. She uses a cognitive behavioral approach to help her patients deal with and overcome challenges and obstacles that have blocked their way to recovery and a healthier life.
Awilda is passionate about empowering patients dealing with addiction and other disorders, including depression, anxiety, relational conflict, and mood disorders. In addition, Awilda has experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and people with developmental disabilities.
She is trained in the reality therapy approach and trauma counseling. With the expertise she gained from a concentration in art education, she uses her artistic skills and abilities to incorporate therapeutic art activities to energize her groups, facilitate community building, and motivate a strong sense of inclusion.
Before coming to Caron in 2024, Awilda was an outpatient therapist and a mobile therapist. In addition, she has worked as an activity therapist at a behavioral health hospital and as a forensic counselor providing drug and alcohol counseling. She started her career in the mental health field in 1999 as a therapeutic support specialist working with children diagnosed with ADHD and other mental health disorders.
Awilda has a Master of Education from the University of Turabo, Guarabo, Puerto Rico, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kutztown University, Pennsylvania.
