As a staff physician in Caron’s Grand View program, Dr. Eric Heffelfinger provides comprehensive medical care and individual personal attention to each patient he sees. As a Caron physician, his scope of care encompasses spending quality time with patients throughout their treatment, offering holistic care for the whole person.
Dr. Heffelfinger’s primary responsibilities include initial evaluations, detox, and ongoing medical care while patients are in treatment. He also facilitates 12-Step meetings and provides educational services.
He began work as a staff physician in 2023, after a year of training in Caron’s Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program. He appreciates the team culture and collegial approach he has found at Caron, noting that everyone approaches their work with patients’ health as their highest priority.
Prior to coming to Caron, Dr. Heffelfinger was in pulmonary and critical care medicine for just over 25 years. That professional experience has given him the ability to communicate with people from a range of circumstances and backgrounds and understand their needs. His life and professional experiences allow him to be imperturbable in stressful environments, able to assess medical situations and needs calmly and carefully.
He is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Heffelfinger completed an internship in internal medicine and three years of residency training followed by a fellowship in pulmonary/critical care medicine He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists.
