Karen Rivera
MA, LPC, CAADC
Pennsylvania
Karen Rivera is a Behavioral Health Therapist working with women in Caron’s Grand View Program. In this role, she provides individual counseling, facilitates groups, and offers topical education about substance use disorder and related behavioral health issues.
She helps patients gain awareness and insight to discover internal and external connections that can lead to recovery. By giving them support and guidance to identify and understand their feelings, Karen helps them reconcile their past and live in the present moment.
Before coming to Caron in 2021, Karen was a primary therapist for five years at another treatment center, working with patients in treatment for addiction and/or behavioral health issues. Her experience expanded and deepened her knowledge of substance use disorder, trauma, and mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. She also worked as an intern at the center for a year before joining the treatment team as a therapist.
Karen is a licensed professional counselor and a certified advanced addiction and drug counselor. She is trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing. Karen has a Master of Arts in clinical mental health counseling from Messiah University, Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Millersville University, Pennsylvania.
I'm glad to be part of a culture in which everyone works together, treats others with respect, and brings their expertise and compassion to each and every patient.”
