Tara Cooper works with teens and adults to help them better understand substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health challenges and to transform their lives as they move forward. Through group facilitation, individual counseling, and case management, Tara helps patients work through their challenges, recognize their strengths, and build confidence and resilience.
Tara joined Caron in 2024. Throughout her career, she has worked with patients and families from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds as well as a range of ages, from children to older adults. With that experience, she has developed a keen ability to listen and take the time to understand her patients in order to provide empathetic targeted support and guidance. Tara creates a warm and welcoming space so that her patients feel safe and empowered.
She treated adults, teens, and children for mental health diagnoses, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, and stabilized teens in crisis, at outpatient mental health treatment centers. As a family therapist, she worked with children, teens, and their families to help them navigate emotional and behavioral difficulties. Tara also worked as a behavioral specialist supporting autistic students with comorbidities in developing life, social, and adaptive skills to improve their quality of life.
Tara has training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, ecosystemic structural family therapy, mindfulness and relaxation training, crisis response and intervention, grief support, and functional behavior assessments.
She has a Master of Arts in Counseling/Clinical Psychology from Eastern University, St. Davids, Pennsylvania, and a Master of Education in Applied Behavior Analysis from Arcadia University, Glenside, Pennsylvania. Tara has a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Sociology from Bloomsburg University, Pennsylvania.
