Caron New York Recovery Center Hosts 25th Annual New York Gala on May 8th to Benefit Caron’s Financial Assistance Program

The gala will honor Gary T. Giglio of Goldman Sachs with the Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence and MusiCares Chairman Michael McDonald with the inaugural Thomas J. Moran Caron Music Award. Jon Batiste and his band, Stay Human, will perform.

NEW YORK – April 23, 2019 – Caron Treatment Centers, a leading, nationally and internationally recognized not-for-profit dedicated to addiction and behavioral healthcare treatment, research, prevention and medical education, expects to raise more than $1 million at its 25th Annual New York Gala to benefit Caron’s financial assistance program. The funds raised support treatment for adolescents, young adults and their families. More than 600 guests will attend the event at Cipriani 42^nd Street on May 8^th.

Gary T. Giglio will be honored with the Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence and MusiCares Chair Michael McDonald will receive the inaugural Thomas J. Moran Caron Music Award. Musician Jon Batiste will perform with his band, Stay Human.

The Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence is presented annually to individuals who, in the estimation of the Caron Board of Trustees, demonstrate the same spirit of caring and compassion exemplified by Caron’s founders Dick and Catherine Caron. This year’s honoree, Gary T. Giglio, is a long-time advocate for addiction treatment and a true visionary in the behavioral health sector. He is involved with The Mission Continues, a national, nonpartisan nonprofit that empowers veterans to continue their service, and empowers communities with veteran talent, skills and preparedness to generate visible impact.

Gary leads the New York Private Wealth Management (PWM) business in the Investment Management Division at Goldman Sachs. He is a steward of inclusive company culture, serves on the Americas Diversity Committee and is a senior leadership ally for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Network. Gary earned an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated with honors and was captain of the lacrosse team. After graduation, Gary served as an officer in the 25th Infantry Division of the US Army.

Inaugural Thomas J. Moran Caron Music Award recipient Michael McDonald has been involved in the music industry for more than 25 years. He currently owns and operates the artist management company, Mick Management. McDonald is also the chair of the Board of Directors for MusiCares. MusiCares is run by the Recording Academy and provides services and resources that cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies in times of need for musicians.

Based in Brooklyn with offices in Nashville and Los Angeles, Mick Management represents Ray LaMontagne, Jon Batiste, David Gray, WALK THE MOON, Leon Bridges, Dean Lewis, Maggie Rogers, Phillip Phillips, Of Monsters and Men, Sharon Van Etten, Brett Dennen, Deer Tick, MUNA, Hamilton Leithauser, Mosa Wild, The Walkmen, Real Estate and Lennon Stella.

He is also an Advisory Board member of the Global Poverty Project, Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment and Thankful Foundation, and a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was a founding partner in Big Deal Music, an independent music publishing company.

Previously known as the Caron Artist Award, the Thomas J. Moran Caron Music Award was renamed this year in honor of the late Thomas J. Moran and his significant contribution to Caron and the recovery community. In 2010, Moran received the Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence for his long-time dedication to helping individuals and families access treatment. He also co-chaired Caron’s Open the Door Campaign along with his friend, Musician Judy Collins, to support the development of Caron’s state-of-the-art Carole and Ray Neag Medical Center, which opened last year on Caron’s Pennsylvania campus.

Jon Batiste and his band, Stay Human weave an intimate and emotional tapestry out of original material and American standards that carries the listener from the early jazz of New Orleans to the present day. In addition, Batiste and Stay Human serve as the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Last year, with the help of Caron’s generous donors in New York and nationwide, Caron provided nearly $10 million in financial assistance for individuals and families seeking treatment. Caron’s New York recovery center offers pre- and post-treatment services, screening and education, and hosts a variety of alumni events and activities.
