Program Highlights

The Teen Program for 16- and 17-year-olds is founded on individual attention and personalized treatment to address both addiction and other issues that teens face, such as anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and depression. Our expert, experienced team helps them understand, deal with, and manage the challenges and issues that block their way to recovery. With attention, understanding, and strong boundaries, teens in the program can heal and learn how to lead healthy, rewarding lives.

Caron’s care is personalized for the level of care each teen needs. Their treatment is clinically driven based on their progress, incorporating residential, outpatient, or other services or programs that meet their needs. Expert clinical and medical staff work together to help teens build a stable foundation for recovery.

Family Program

When families participate in drug and alcohol rehab, statistics show that patients have lower relapse rates. Teens who are 16- and 17 years old with substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health issues. If a mental health diagnosis is not something we can treat at Caron, we will refer your teen to another facility. Anyone older than 18 will be admitted to the Young Adult Program and Caron will not admit patients younger than 16 at this time.

Yes. Like our Young Adult Program, the Teen Program allows for individual attention to each teen, providing personalized treatment and building bonds among teens and with staff. Staff employs an agreement-based philosophy that is built on incentives for recovery-based (or pro-social) behaviors, peer-based discussion of rules and consequences, and group decision-making facilitated by staff.

The Teen Program is specifically designed for 16- and 17-year-old males and females. It provides gender-separate and specific programming while offering some co-ed programming. Co-ed programs and activities help teens develop skills to maintain respectful, safe, and age-appropriate relationships. Teen girls and boys live in separate buildings to ensure privacy and the ability to build trusting, reflective relationships with other patients and staff.

Educational options include medical leave during the teen’s stay, receiving assignments from their home school, or enrolling in a virtual school. An education liaison will work with the teen's home school to get assignments to complete.

No. Teens do not have access to phones except with clinical supervision during a specific time period. Additionally, their school laptops will be set up to not allow access to social media of any kind.

It will vary according to each teen’s needs. They may be in treatment or participating in alternative programming, like recreation, for example.

No. Unless accompanied by Caron staff on outings that are part of treatment, teens stay on campus.

Teen girls and boys have separate living quarters in separate buildings. In addition, behavioral health technicians are with teens when teens are not in programming. Caron has also added language to parental releases detailing actions that would require the parent to come and get the teen. The threshold for abusive behavior of any kind, including verbal, is low to ensure the safety of other patients.

Parents are invited to participate in the Family Education Program and in family therapy with their teens. In addition, parents will receive an initial update 72 hours after the teen is admitted, followed by weekly updates with their teen’s permission. The therapist will make referrals as needed for family support in the family’s home community.
